La Mer
(The Sea)
Claude Debussy (1862-1918)
Debussy has also written symphonic sketches called "The Sea," divided into three parts : "1. From dawn till noon on the sea. 2. Frolics of waves. 3. Dialogue of the wind and the sea." Like "Three Nocturnes," the sketches defy analysis. They are but dreams, the impressions and bizarre fancies of a dreamer. The music is as mysterious as the sea itself.
