Pergolesi died at just 26 years old and in poverty. His work became celebrated only after his death. The greatest work of Pergolesi music is the intermezzo (or short comic opera) entitled La serva padrona (The Maid Turned Mistress). Other works are his Stabat Mater and the operas, Salustia and L'Olimpiade.
